During my entire working life as a professional dog groomer and educator, I have always believed that dog grooming leads the way in animal welfare, and that we should promote this always to our fellow groomers and clients.
I have continually learned and enhanced my personal and professional development, and I strive to pass this enthusiasm for learning to all my students.

I hold the best of the professional dog grooming qualifications available in the U.K :

  • The City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma.
  • The Licentiate of the City and Guilds Institute.
  • The International Certificate in Master Grooming.
  • The British Dog Groomer’s Association Higher Diploma in Dog Grooming.
  • I am a senior examiner for the Higher Diploma, and a member of The Guild of Master Groomers.
  • In addition I hold a Level 3 Teaching Qualification.

I have travelled far and wide as a grooming examiner, giving seminars and grooming demonstrations. I’ve seen almost all of our beautiful country, and have worked in the North and South of Ireland, the U.S.A and Estonia, to name a few places. I enjoyed travelling, but nowadays prefer to stay in the U.K.

I was born in London, into a family of animal lovers….my Great Aunt had a very successful pet shop and “ Poodle Parlour “ in Bethnal Green. From a very young age I spent every available moment in her shop “ helping “ her to trim dogs. She passed a lot of her skill on to me, but what I remember most is her working rule….” If it hurts them we don’t do it “. I was, without realising it, absorbing what was to become my lifelong working ethos… that a visit to the dog groomer should be a pleasant experience for all dogs, and that they should be treated as humanely as possible.
My aunt also used to show whippets and in later life, Persian Cats, with great success.
I have photos dating back to the 1930s showing various family members in little courtyard back gardens with their Wire Fox Terriers, Chow Chows and assortment of dog breeds.

I have been around show dogs for most of my life. My parents showed Bassett Hounds and Dachshunds and I showed Doberman’s until around 1999. After a spell of ill-health I decided to try to buy a puppy of my dream breed… The Kerry Blue Terrier.

I have my own Kennel name, Dogazza.

We attend Crufts Dog Show every year, and show regularly around the U.K at many different dog shows.

My Kerry Blue Oz (Champion Catachgorm Checkmate by Dogazza ) was Joint Top Kerry Blue 2023 and he won the title of Top Champion of Cornwall in the same year.
I have owned my grooming business, Callington Dog Grooming Services since 1991.
I started in a small salon which used the be the town mortuary, then we moved next door to Calweton Veterinary Centre, and in 2018, we moved to our current location at Compton Park.

I am a great believer in exercise for both my dogs and myself, and spend a lot of time out on Dartmoor walking and climbing the many Tors of Dartmoor. My dogs also love the water so swimming out on Dartmoor in the rivers and streams is also a great way to exercise them.
I have judged many dog breeds at Open Shows and am now in the final stages of completing the Royal Kennel Club’s Judges Education Programme, which will hopefully approve me to award Challenge Certificates in Kerry Blue Terriers once completed.
Dog grooming and dog showing are very compatible as work and a hobby. At the dog shows I have had numerous opportunities to observe and learn about many different dog breeds and happily, my life is a never-ending journey of learning.

I am also a keen gardener, and have a special fondness for roses, peonies and herbs. I also enjoy music, films and cooking. Last but not least, I love to spend time with my family. I have two beautiful granddaughters who are also dog lovers.

My eldest granddaughter Amelia has had a try at dog grooming and she showed a lot of promise……time will tell whether she chooses to work with me or not!
